Well , that certainly doesn't seem fair at all. When I got my fatty liver diagnosis, I was not surprised at all. My weight was all over the place, I'd done 20 years worth of damage with drugs and alcohol, and despite being sober for a few decades, I'd been ignoring my liver enzymes for years and years because they've been wacky for years and I attributed it to an old "war wound" (longer story than I want to go into). I was shocked when the Fibrascan told me it was as stiff as wood. Luckily, diet and lifestyle changes reversed everything. Fat - gone. My wooden liver is not a rubber ball and all is good, or as good as it gets after 60.
Glad we both bounced back. ❤️ Bodies are amazing - Also, loved your live Yoga class. 🧘🏼♀️
Fantastic read and congrats on the reversal! I learned I had a mild form of this but my enzymes aren’t affected. No one has said to do anything about it except limit alcohol. Your story is going to make me check into it more! 👏😱
Congrats on loving your liver and this beautiful essay! I worked in big pharma for decades and after I got sober, made a 180 turn and am now an herbalist. I now understand that, while well-meaning, by simply throwing a drug at a diagnosis rather than addressing the root cause and taking a holistic approach, western doctors can leave people resigned to a life sentence of pills and a diagnosis hanging over their heads.
Yes! Thank you for sharing that, too. I know “non-compliance” is a real thing that drs deal with, too… it’s just sad that it has gotten to this point of meds as default.

Thanks for reading, Nan!

Thank you. You’re the reason I wanted to share this, then.
