That sounds frighteningly familiar. I started with Facebook's Scrabble, then downloaded a stand-alone app after my online friends refused to play with me after always losing. Then Words with Friends took over my time, then Wordle. When I upgraded my phone, I resisted the temptation to download the apps and resume my addiction. Cold turkey was hard, but I found my time to be much more productive when I wasn't fiending for my next victory.
Same here. I've gotten invitations but I have declined. However, a friend invited me to play online chess and I am tempted. I fear it might be a gateway game, leading me to backgammon and mah jong. Before you know it, I'll find myself in a bingo hall!
I started playing backgammon online a couple of years ago, but it got out of hand as well. I found an app that blocks websites and am now banned from playing it!

Good on you for going cold turkey. A friend recently asked if I'd play him online. I said no, not going back there.
(I'm a rookie at Substack, typed this reply earlier today and can't see it!)
