So much great stuff in here. I am currently a middle-aged man turning into a cupcake. I also did not expect the twist of you listening to Taylor in the gym, and it may have been Folklore?? (Thought for sure "Shake It Off") Then the final turn into embracing her Torture Poet era with "Whose Afraid..." This article was the best kind of journey.

I love this. Such great writing. I’m ready to put my earbuds in right now.

So entertaining and also so much truth in here, in the funny parts and the serious ones. What a terrific piece!

I’m like mind blown by this piece.

I’m personally one of those younger women that experienced Taylor come up as a country star 20 years ago and related to her then, as a bullied preteen who struggled to cope. I truly saw myself in her during some of the most trialing years of my life. Someone who wrote about her experiences and had a real purpose and connection with others — and was popular for once. And coincidentally, I’ve been a lifelong writer by vocation.

But as Taylor has grown, I’ve also seen myself in her as a deeply complex human. I too have trod a path of a complex existence as I’ve gotten older. She didn’t follow a traditional path, as neither did I.

Taylor Swift is everything a human is, and it’s one of my favorite things that exists in this world. She’s weird, bubbly, and quirky, a total showman, a heartbreaker, an intense cinematic mind, an actual professional marketer my God, a force of nature, and a genuinely whimsical, imaginative, loving old soul who hasn’t lost her fantastical innocence in the rubbish of public bullshit, when many would think she had.

Taylor Swift is many things. Practically a 400 year old soul with a lot of life wisdom, both earned and innate. She’s also a strategic 10-12 year old girl who will do nearly anything in her right mind seeking attention. And she’s an incredibly intelligent, grounded yet malleable, 30 year old woman, who continues to write the incredibly complex story of what it means to be human.

I could say so much here.

Thank you for this post. I enjoyed your descriptive language about her, so well done 🥹🥹🥹

Stainsuits, haha! Great funny essay. I’ve never listen to TS and couldn’t tell you a single song title, but I admire her greatly. And had no clue that middle-aged sweaty guys were secretly rocking out to her!

I am a gym rat but not a Swifty, and yet, I loved this glimpse into your life. So fun. I loved this para, "But there is a shadow audience for her music, an unlikely horde of listeners who secretly blare her infectious and uplifting power rock while desperately trying to stay fit on the elliptical—an invisible army of dudes who like bubblegum, I guess."
