A blow dryer could stop colic? OMG! I dealt with a wailing baby for five full months! If only I'd taken the self care time to blow my hair dry! Wow...........
Beautiful true words. It reminded me of a story about my mom showing up at a friend's house when her baby was a newborn. She took the baby, sent Tracy to shower and rest then made a huge pot of lentil soup.
Thank you for sharing my post! I was finding myself shedding a few tears when I found that. It means a lot! 💜
And as for crying babies: my son really loved loved Norah Jones at the time. I think I couldn't listen to anything else for at least seven months! I tried everything, even music that sounded like her, but he would just get upset ;)
This captured those tender, tired moments of early motherhood so acutely; the grasping for surety. Memories of the hair dryer, or running the vacuum during each baby’s witching hour. And then, for some inexplicable reason, a Miles Davis record for my colicky son, who is now a musician.
A lovely lovely story with a twist -- who knew just where the hair dryer would come in? And there it was, braided with the bread. The last line is perfect. Thank you for making me remember ways my mother helped me when my son was a newborn.
