I saw the title, with "hobby" in it and thought, ho-hum. Not serious enough. But I started reading and couldn't stop. The life-saving complexities of it pulled me in and through. I have a friend who makes wonderful quilts. This is exactly how she describes her feeling as she invents and puts together disparate items. Love it!
Sounds like a win win situation fostering creativity. Consider selling your bags decorated with specific themes to benefit a favorite charity! Great essay.
Fabulous! New crafts are so terribly addictive, aren't they? I tend to work in the opposite way, though. I start with the full intention of the multi-production you are writing about here, but then two or three pieces in, I get distracted by another idea. Suddenly, the matching fabric bowl, or a decorative key-ring, or....or....or...., so many good ideas draw me into the next hobby. I applaud you for sticking to the bag-making, and I suspect the recipients of your makes are hugely grateful, too.
I want one!! Loved reading this and kept wanting to know what they all looked like - even beyond the photo. I wanted to touch them and imagine using them. Great piece! And btw - your writing is for more than you. It's for us readers, too. Thank you!
Charming piece.
Your new hobby prompted me to RENEW my obsession with bags: Now I'm making them from singleton socks!!

You seem to enjoy it, so keep at it if time allows. The joy you bring to others is certainly a big bonus! I love your bags.

You can send those bags along to me! (jk) :-D
This is really lovely, and I adore the bags you have made!
So relatable. I’ve become obsessed with embroidery. Like I need another hobby! But it’s so fun, so…
