So well-written and evocative. I was with you in the tiny dressing room and up against the machine. Good luck as you go forward, hoping you stay well.

so well written. only a woman can understand the fear of paying to have your breast squished and then waiting in a small closet dressed on a skimpy gown to find out if your body has betrayed you. Thank you for sharing this.

Oh sister, I'm beside you in the waiting room, boobs drooping. My mom, her sister, my step-mom, my best friend. All had breast cancer. Every year I sit trying to reflect on the beautiful life I've had, trying to fill with gratitude, but those thoughts creep in, and I wonder if this year is my year to endure the agony. Thank you for your beautiful words; next time I'll imagine you beside me.

Thanks for sharing this story, Aisha. My mom had a rare autoimmune disorder, and now I have it. A friend once asked if I was angry at her because I inherited it from her. Actually, it's the opposite: it connects me to her in yet another way. She's been gone for 19 years now and I'd give anything to talk to her about it. I wish I'd paid more attention to what she was going through.

I hope you got good results.

The procedure is bad enough without some thoughtless tech criticizing you. Many doctors, techs, assistants, etc. are so rude today. (My primary doc actually bullies me!) People like this needed to be reported for such rudeness.

Great writing.....
