Thank you for sharing your experience. That's so scary and I wish it was different. There's so much privilege in living somewhere where it's okay to be out. I wish people would see that we are just people trying to live our lives.

I wish it were different too. The worst part is we still have a long way to go here.

Maybe one day, I too, will have that privilege.

I wish the world was kinder.

I feel your pain. I was lucky enough to leave when i did but watching what goes on in zambia will always break my heart. each day i realise if i ever did return i’d never be allowed to be who i am freely. half of me wants to make change happen and the other other half is waaaaay too scared to return. thanks for being brave about who you are and just know that all the way from out here…i’m rooting for you ❤️

Thank you so much for your comment.

I completely relate to the point about b wanting to make change happen while being afraid. I am afraid. I want to leave most times but I am stuck here. Until then I will do what I can.

Insightful post KK, we are a hypocritical people by far and we are unashamed of it so it seems; a closer look does show us that the issues that the country should prioritize or channel a good level of energy are by far not LGBTI+ in nature.

You raise a very important point and I agree when you say Zambians are united by homophobia. Everytime I hold conversations with my guys and we talk about the LGBT community the guys go berserk yet when i raise issues of adultery, drugs or other "immoral acts" people committ it seems we cool and nothing is wrong.

I look forward to a time:

1. When the country will be unbothered by the LGBT community.

2. When the law enforcement and justice system will protect and defend the LGBT minority community like any other citizen.

3. When the LGBT community will enjoy the same rights as any other country man and receive first class citizen treatment.

4. When human rights will also mean rights of the LGBT community.
