I had to read this because of the word "Psychic" in the title and I enjoyed it very much. I am fascinated by psychic dreams and accurate psychic readings. I've been to a lot of psychics-- some who really were and some who obviously weren't but the ones who were-- wow! My kids are grown now but the book sounds like a fun read.

You made me remember one of my own kooky "What the... ?" moments. Once, a friend was wondering why her friend was late for our game night. I didn't know the late person. I said, "Maybe he's picking up an ICE CREAM cake." Why would I be so specific? Why wouldn't I say a snack like chips or drinks like beer or wine? Well, he walked in with a Baskin Robbins ice cream cake. What the?!
Anyway, I loved your story. Interesting, wondrous, and humorous.
Hahaha I love it! And yes! How do these things work their way into our brains??? At least you didn’t say “maybe he choked on an ice cream cake…” Which is what would have come out of my mouth. And then I would have had to visit him in the ICU. Thanks for commenting and glad you liked it!
Same feeling about psychic powers as you do. And I love this piece so much, almost as much as I love to tell my kids I'm psychic. (They never believe me, but I manage to weird them out when I am strangely right or buy the same item as someone we know. My special ability is greeting cards.)
I'm not super into astrology, but by instinct I would agree that All Toddlers Are Scorpios! The book sounds terrific, Johanna. Congrats and thanks for writing such a deliciously fun essay. Incidentally, I grew up in New York used to joke about those psychics. "I can see you got a curse on you....you got a *purse* on you? I can fix it!"
