This resonates profoundly with me. My OH has been accumulating Stash for all the 48 years of our marriage and, even though she is now severely physically incapacitated and unlikely ever to undertake any significant projects in the future, continues to do so. Mysterious packages arrive at regular intervals and accumulate in our bedroom. It doesn't help that, for several years, she had a haberdashery business and we still have the residual stock - principally about 300 bolts of cotton fabric for patchwork. There is Stash in our bedroom, our living room, our kitchen, our airing cupboard, our garage, and in the huge lockup (it used to be a shop) that we rent nearby. I know it will never end and - if she is honest with herself - so does she. At some stage in the future it will fall to our daughter to arrange its disposal. But as she is a crafter, too, it might all just end up being moved from one place of storage to another.

When i look at my craft room and the many supplies therein I like to think of myself as a dragon laying atop a pile of hoarded treasure. Definitely not pathological. šŸ˜„

I’m not a crafter but this is highly relatable. Art supplies for me. I smiled throughout the whole piece. Thank you.

Hilary, So true that gathering supplies is one form of crafting and crafting itself is the other. I cosider myself a collector and by that nature, sometimes I use items from my collections to craft. I was careful not to ruin the integrity of a collection but nonetheless, I used some items. I was able to create 20 "Joseph Cornel type assemblages" before I decided to stop crafting. The reason was twofold. One, I had given the contents of all of my collections to Chicago Children's Museum on Navy Pier so crafting supplies were no longer available. Two, and probably previous to giving my "stuff" to CCM, I decided that if I would not allow the space to store the items THAT MIGHT BE NEEDED, I would not be half assed about and just stop the crafting. Meanwhile I write and still collect and am content to not craft. Maybe some day the urge will return? Fondly, Michael

Reminds me of the acronym SABLE: Stash Acquired Beyond Life Expectancy.
